ELIGIBILITY

Members of the Base Honor Guard are exceptional members of the Air Force. As such, they must exemplify the standards of customs and courtesies, dress and appearance, and personal conduct. Specifically, applicants must not be on a control roster nor have a current UIF or Article 15, must meet the Air Force Fitness Standard. Additionally, applicants will not be accepted if they are one the weight management program or have a shaving waiver. Individuals enrolled in CDC's and/or upgrade training are allowed to join the Base Honor Guard. Mandatory study time is giving in order to help members prepare for end of course exams. Members volunteer or are appointed at group level under the 16SOW and tenant units, to fulfill our quota of 60 team members. Applicants must complete an application before attending a training class.

DUTIES

Members will be required to perform duties of the Hurlburt Field Base Honor Guard. Upon completion of training, each new member will be placed in a flight. These flights are responsible for performing all approved honors requests to include Military Funeral Honors, Colors and Cordon details. Each member incurs a year commitment to the Honor Guard to be served in 6 month increments.  The first 6 months are served in ‘active’ status and the last 6 months each member returns to their unit and is place on ‘reserve’ status.

During your active 6 month rotation with the Honor Guard, you belong to the Honor Guard. Your unit cannot pull you for any reason unless they go through the Honor Guard NCOIC. This mean you are not subject to unit recalls, Bay Orderly, or other squadron details. All unit's training requirements must be scheduled for the time you are with your unit, to ensure available manning to fill ceremony requests.

LEAVE AND TDY's

Due to providing Military Funeral Honors, members cannot take leave during the first through the fifteenth of the month during their active month with the Honor Guard. We must have the personnel to honor every funeral request that's received. Members are required to notify the NCOIC, Base Honor Guard Program of all TDY's, leaves, formal training, etc., and are required to submit one copy of an approved leave authorization or TDY orders to the NCOIC, Base Honor Guard Program before departing Hurlburt Field. Leave and TDY's that corresponds with Honor Guard duty must be coordinated through the NCOIC, Base Honor Guard Program. TDY's in excess of 15 days will lengthen the member's term of service by the total length of the TDY.
